Welcome to My Career Couch.
I call it “My” Couch and I hope you would personalize it too because this is essentially a safe space where we can sit and chat as I help you get unstuck and successfully navigate your chosen career paths.
My Career Couch was borne out of a place of empathy. I really do understand the concept of feeling like the underdog and I lived with it for years. After graduation, I quickly realised that school taught me everything except how to plan my dream career path. Job searching was incredibly hard, networking was uncomfortable and unproductive, my CVs and cover letters probably didn’t make much sense because I had no professional experience, interviews made me so anxious and all the advice on the internet was generic - so it was no wonder I applied to hundreds of companies and didn’t land any jobs. Everyone else just seemed to have much better luck and I could not figure out what was wrong with me.
Once I got my lucky break (as I call it), I decided to break down the hiring process and its many moving parts so I could figure things out for myself. However, I learnt the most by being on the opposite side of the table - The HR & Recruiter side. I’ve handled small – large scale recruitment, performance appraisals, redundancies, terminations, training and development, and I currently serve as an advisor to business leaders on HR issues.
Through these, I have picked up on the key things successful professionals do that the unsuccessful ones don’t and used them to blossom from literal obscurity to winning awards, getting headhunted on LinkedIn, being sought out by recruiters and I continue to build an extensive corporate network. I’ve learnt a lot from all of this, and I aim to help at least one person find their place on the career ladder by insightful conversations, useful tips and personalised services. Sometimes you just need someone to sit you down, show you your mistakes, open your eyes to the possibilities and help you get back on the right track.
I know because I’ve lived it and I’m here to help you with that.
If you're currently feeling stuck and would like to talk about your career, please do not hesitate to book a brainstorming session.
Till next time,
T
